FOUNDATION TO LEVEL 2 SCHOOL SCIENCE INCURSIONS

Science to captivate all the senses

  • Science incursions aligned to the Victorian curriculum 2.0

  • Delivered by qualified teachers experienced in science education

  • Workshops available in a 60 or 90 minute format

  • FUN and interactive to engage and excite

  • Small group sizes of up to 30 students per workshop to maximise hands-on learning

Junior students are natural born scientists and are curious about the world around them. Our supercharged workshops give young students a solid base of knowledge in the biological, chemical, physical, Earth and space sciences. Through highly engaging activities they will develop their awareness of self and the local world.

Biology

Using biology tools like stereo and compound microscopes students will get up-close and personal with some awesome life forms.

Sensory Feast
Foundation – Level 2

Feel, smell, hear, see and taste! Supercharge your five senses in this SURPRISING and COLOURFUL workshop.  Learn about the parts of the human body that allow you to sense and how they work. In practical ways discover how your senses allow you to respond to your environment and navigate the world around you. There is something to challenge and delight every sense.

Plants and animals have external features that perform different functions to enable their survival; in plants these features include roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruit, bulbs, trunks and branches while different features in animals enable them to move, breathe, eat and respond to their environment VC2S2U03

Creatures Alive
Foundation – Level 6

Learn what distinguishes living things from non-living things and things that were once living, including fossils. Explore life cycles and how biological systems are interdependent, interacting with each other and their environments. Use lenses and microscopes to get a closer look at external features and how they relate to function. Get hands-on with some wiggly worms.

Plants and animals have basic needs, including air, water, food and shelter; the places where they live meet those needs VC2S2U02

Clever Plants
Foundation – Level 6

Plants are the only life forms that can produce their own food using energy from sunlight. In this FUN hands-on incursion explore the lifecycle of plants, from seed dispersal and germination to pollination and growth. Learn how plants adapt and survive in different environments. Plant your own seeds and determine how environmental conditions affect growth.

Chemistry

Explore the physical and chemical properties of substances through exciting hands-on activities.

Crazy Chemistry
Foundation - Level 2

Everything you LOVE about chemistry: piles of fizz, foam and bubble action! Through interactive activities discover how changes to substances can be reversible like dissolving, or irreversible with new substances formed. Explore acids and bases with colourful indicators. Investigate a special group of chemicals called polymers and even take one home!

Objects can be made of one or more different materials; these materials have observable properties VC2S2U04

Materials can be combined in a variety of ways for particular purposes; the properties of objects and mixtures can differ from the properties of the materials from which they are made VC2S2U05

Mighty Materials
Foundation - Level 4

Investigate the composition and properties of materials in this unique workshop. Sort materials, including fibres, metals, glass and plastics into natural and made; and explore their properties and purposes in fun ways. Combine materials to make interesting mixtures and discover how they can change. See materials and fibres through completely different eyes under high-magnification microscopes.

Physics

Enter a fast-paced world of energy and motion. There's sound vibrations, spinning gyros and FUN toys!

Toys In Motion
Foundation – Level 2

Show me a junior scientist who doesn’t love toys!? This workshop is all about moving toys and serious play. Tick tock: investigate gears, cogs, springs, potential and kinetic energy. Understand that the way objects move depends on a variety of factors. Take a tour through the history of toys and visit some old favourites like slinkies and knuckle bones. Explore push and pull forces, friction and gravity.

The way objects move depends on a variety of factors including their size, shape and material VC2S2U10

Pushes and pulls are forces that can change an object’s movement or shape and can be represented in terms of strength and direction VC2S2U11

Sound Vibrations
Foundation – Level 2

Welcome to a wonderful world of sound and music. Through sensory explorations this workshop delivers learning outcomes around sound vibrations, pitch and volume. Sound is a physical, movement energy that can be seen and felt. Watch the surprising effect of sound waves on a flame and a ping pong ball. Investigate how sound energy travels, make a fun sound toy, and much more to tantalize your ear drums.

Sound can make materials vibrate and vibrating materials can make sound; different actions can be used to produce sounds of varying pitch and volume VC2S2U12

Earth & Space

Explore celestial objects and identify patterns in the sky through highly engaging activities.

Reduce Reuse Recycle
Foundation – Level 2

More and more people recycle everyday. This helps to reduce the need for landfill and more costly forms of disposal. Recycling also reduces the need for extracting, refining and processing raw materials all of which create air and water pollution. Through fun and engaging activities learn the best ways to recycle. Investigate some interesting materials that scientists have developed to be kinder to our home planet.

Taking care of Earth’s water, land and air involves consideration of reducing, re-using and recycling materials to conserve Earth’s resources VC2S2U09

Wacky Weather
Foundation – Level 2

This wacky workshop will excite and delight junior scientists. Learn about weather processes and changes through an engaging demonstration of the water cycle. Explore the relationship between the tilt, movement and orbit of Earth with the seasons and our calendar.  Investigate the sun's energy with UV beads and solar panels. Even create a winter wonderland with flurries of snow!

Daily and seasonal changes in the weather and the environment can be observed and affect decisions made in everyday life VC2S2U07

Sun Moon & Stars
Foundation – Level 2

Gaze into the magic of the night sky and discover what is beyond our home planet. The sun is the centre of our solar system and is MASSIVE. If it was a jar, one million earths could fit inside! Participate in highly engaging activities to learn about our solar system: the Sun, moon, planets and stars, how they change position and impact our daily lives.

Earth is one of 8 planets in our solar system; observing the sky reveals patterns in the changing positions of the Sun, Moon, planets and stars VC2S2U08
